Petition to Doctorate
For current master's students wishing to apply to the Ph.D. Program
Department policy states that all current M.A. students seeking admission to the doctorate program must go through a formal admissions process. Thus, the required materials must be submitted to the department no later than January 3 for international students and January 17 for all other students. Late applications will not be accepted.
To apply, the Department requires the following:
- Statement of Intent
- A writing sample
- Three letters of recommendation
- Petition for Admission to a Doctorate in Same Discipline
While the student may have letters of recommendation already on file, it is strongly recommended that updated letters be submitted with the application. Current M.A. students do not need to supply transcripts. These will be included in the file by the department staff. It is the applicant's responsibility to review the file to be sure it is complete.
